**Tuesday, August 22: Pullman Porters and the Railroad **

For nearly 100 years after the end of slavery, the Pullman Company hired almost exclusively Black employees, becoming the largest single employer of African Americans in the United States. During this conversation we will review this history and observe the lengths porters went through to maintain their jobs and integrity. We’ll also discuss the work that went into eventually organizing their own labor union.
