Friday, May 6: Family Night at the Museum Begins (5 - 7 p.m.)

The Union Pacific Railroad Museum will offer a new monthly event, Family Night at the Museum, from 5 to 7 p.m. the first Friday evening of each month starting May 6.

In addition to providing extended hours for visitors to access the Museum’s range of interactive displays on railroading and the history of the west, each family night will also feature a unique arts or learning opportunity that is fun for the entire family.

During the first Family Night on May 6, from 5-7 p.m., visitors will experience "All in a Day’s Work," exploring past and present jobs on the railroad and with the National Park Service.

Families can try their hand at sorting mail, decorating a Park Ranger badge and breaking a secret code. Representatives from Operation Lifesaver will also be on site to provide information, child-centered activities and fun give-aways that promote community safety around railroads. In keeping with the "All Set for the WEST" theme, the Museum is also partnering with Ballet Nebraska to offer an outreach performance of "Go West" at 6 p.m. Ballet members will be on hand to answer questions for visitors after the performance.

All family nights are free admission. Donations are gladly accepted.

The next Family Night at the Museum will be June 3 and will feature the theme, "If You Build It..." which explores what it takes to build a National Park Lodge or a railroad.
